Selling your home during the holidays

You might think that while you’re trying to sell your home this holiday season, everybody else is thinking about buying gifts and hanging stockings—but just hang on a minute.

If you’re trying to sell right now, odds are, someone else is looking because, well, someone’s always looking for a house. And that house just might be yours.

So, if you’re trying to sell a home during the holidays, follow these tips:

Examine the market. Have your real estate agent scour the market carefully so that you list your home for exactly the right price relative to your neighborhood and general market. People shopping for homes during the holidays probably don’t have a lot of time to spare, so list your home at a price that compares favorably with similar area properties but also leaves you with a profit margin you are happy with.

Stage for the season. Also, make sure to make your home a bastion of holiday cheer. Everybody’s in the mood for some Christmas spirit this year, so give them what they want—trees, garlands, a little soft holiday music, subtle Christmas accents on tabletops and bookcases. People know you’re selling your home during the holidays, so don’t shy away from the holiday decorations. Do it up grand.

Selling during the holidays doesn’t have to be a drag. With the right prep, it can be a happy time for everyone involved!
